Try these series of steps:
Most: As most computers of different makes have various CMOS setups and
>ways
to
enter into
them. Setting up the parallel port within the computer's CMOS is generally
not
an available option
on 486 or lower based computers. If you have a 486 or lower based computer
please skip this
step. If you are unable to enter your CMOS settings or determine how to
change
the parallel port
mode, please contact your computer vendor in order to complete this step.
CAUTION: If you are not familiar with your system CMOS, we highly suggest
that
you
contact your computer vender for assistance with this step. Incorrect
settings
in your system CMOS
can cause your system to operate incorrectly.
Step 1. Determine how to enter the your setup.
A. During the boot up process, while the computer is testing the RAM, along
the
bottom or top on
the left hand side of the screen, there will be a short message stating -
Press
<This key> to enter
setup. Where <This key> is usually Del, F1, F2, or sometimes F10.
When you see this message, press <This key>.
Step 2. Determine how to access the Parallel port mode.
A. Find the screen that lets you change the Parallel port mode. Look for
>the
following on the main
screen - (Integrated peripherals, Peripheral configuration, I/O ports,
Input/Output Ports, and in
some CMOS's, you must choose advanced, and then look for the previous
three).
You will use
your arrow keys to navigate within the computer's CMOS and generally enter
to
select the item.
B. Find parallel port mode, sometimes also labeled parallel port type or
>LPT
mode.
Step 3. Determine how to change the Parallel port mode.
A. We need to arrow down until we highlight the Parallel port mode box.
There
are generally three
ways to change this value.
They are: Press enter and a small menu will come up, Press the right arrow
key,
or Press the Page
Down key. The Value you are looking for is ECP, If ECP isn't available
choose
EPP, If you dont have EPP choose PS/2 Bi-directional.
Step 4. Save your changes.
A. There are generally three ways to save your changes. You will have to
determine which way the
your computer is.
(1) Press 'F10' then 'Enter' on yes I want to save my changes and exit.
(2) Press Esc until you return to the first screen. On the first screen
there
will be an option that states
'Exit and Save'. Arrow down to this option and press the 'Enter' key.
(3) Press Esc until a box opens up stating 'Do you want to save changes and
exit?' Press 'Y' and
'Enter' to save your changes.
If that fails to work.. try this:
Shut your entire system down (computer, scanner, printer)
Make sure you don't have any other devices connected to your computer
besides
your scanner, we want to make sure we are only working with the scanner
Turn off the scanner, and disconnect and reconnect both ends of your
>scanner
cable
Turn your scanner on and wait for the green ready light, Turn on your PC
>and
boot to windows
Run the swissknife program first (start programs scanport scanmodule-
swissknife)
Test the port, If the port is ok then continue with the steps below.
If the test doesn't detect your port then, try changing your parallel port
to
EPP. More instructions for changing your parallel port can be aquired at
www.scanport.com/technic.htm
1. Restart the computer with the scanner NOT connected.
2. Right click on 'My Computer'
3. Click properties.
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Go down the list until you see SCSI controllers. Click the plus '+' next
to
SCSI controllers. If it is a minus, continue.
6. Double click on 'Scanport parallel port host adapters'
7. Click settings.
8. Type the following in the Adapter settings line: /u /n
9. Click ok, then ok on the device manager screen.
10. Now click 'Yes' you want to restart the computer.
11. Let the computer restart, then shut the computer down.
12. Re-attach the scanner, turn the scanner on, wait until the green ready
stops
blinking, and power
on the computer.
If the scanner works after the above steps, Make sure you turn EVERYTHING
OFF
before you attempt to hook up your printer or any other parallel devices.
If hooking up any other devices knocks your scanner off line, then you
>might
need an A/B switch box to separate the two devices
Then this:
Try this:
Open up your scanning program
1- Get to your preview window, you should also see a 2nd window next to the
preview called 'untitled job1' (if you don't see this settings window,
>click
'view' and 'show settings window')
2- In the settings window click the small red tool box icon
3- You will see the word 'FINAL' click on it and change it to 'DRAFT' ..
Then
click OK
4- Try your preview and scan again

If that fails to work.. try this:
Print this out and try these series of steps:
Shut your entire system down (computer, scanner, printer)
Make sure you don't have any other devices connected to your computer
besides
your scanner, we want to make sure we are only working with the scanner
Turn off the scanner, and disconnect and reconnect both ends of your
>scanner
cable
Turn your scanner on and wait for the green ready light, Turn on your PC
>and
boot to windows
1 Run the uninstall program in the 'scanport scanmodule for windows95' menu
2 Remove the 'scanport parallel port host adapter in your device manager
under
'scsi controllers' (right click 'my computer' and left click on
'properties'. If
it says 'scanport simplscsi host adapter' remove that one
3 Go to start find find files or folders
4 Do a find on 'scanport' you will see a folder that says scanport located
in
the C:\, Delete this folder by making sure its highlighted and hit your
'delete'
key
5. Do a find on 'Twain' and delete all twain dll's and twain folders that
reside
in the c:\windows
6. Do a find also on "smplscsi" and everything that shows found,
delete
them
7. Do a find also on "swisnife.ini" and delete it when its found.
8. Reboot your system
Then do this:
Verify that you have the latest drivers for you model. Look at the drivers
page
on our website to find out what the latest drivers are.
Download the 2.68 Simplscsi drivers at www.scanport.com/drivers.htm
To install the 2.68 properly follow these steps.
1 Install the latest scanmodule for your scanner, or the scanmodule that
>you
received on your CD ROM
2 Choose 'Adaptec SCSI card' for your interface card, and finish through
>the
rest of the installation
3 Goto where you downloaded the EPP268.exe file
4 Install the 2.68 by double clicking the file, then be sure to keep all
installation defaults.
5. Restart your computer
Try your scans again
